My Pitch
I am at a loss of ideas for the plot of the opening sequence. I think the most authentic film would have a storyline that relates to my own personal experience. However, this implies that I am the main character and since I am working solo, it could be hard to get several shots of myself while filming. The best solution for this would be to purchase more camera equipment. Although I have the time to research a functioning, multi-purpose setup, the extra cost might not be practical for this project. Anyways, I have narrowed my thinking to two possible pitches.
"A troubled writer struggles in solidarity, but his mind will begin to play tricks on him until the next big hit."
Albeit that this is very vague, I think the details could be very easily adjusted. For example, the main character could be a scientist, artist, or any type of white collar worker. I might also be able to film many shots at a desk or indoors, where the conditions are easily maintained. This way, I could still plan for some more filming equipment to get all of my required shots and angles. However, this idea might not have as definite of a plot than the other pitch.
"An orphan will make a perilous journey to find clues that will lead him to his presumed dead parents."
In this film, I think that there will be a stronger focus on the character development. It could also fit my acting crew since there will be one main character. As far as production, I will have to find several different settings to set the scene. External factors such as the weather, events, and even people in the background could make filming in all outdoor places difficult and time consuming.
Ultimately, I am leaning towards the first pitch. Although the initial character development might seem confusing, it could prove as an interesting rhetorical device. This could leave a mysterious and intriguing feel to the main 2 minute opening sequence. The first pitch can also have a broader option of music, as the actions can take place nearly anywhere with any mood.
