Costume Conundrum
For our film, we need to be mindful of the mis-en-scene to make sure the entire film makes sense. One of these practical elements is the costumes. I had to make sure that the costumes we will use will suit the mood of the film. During production, we decided that the victims can wear typical, casual outfits with no theme. However, the killer has to be a dark and mysterious character. Considering that the killer is mostly present at night, I decided that dark colors would be best to wear. I narrowed any costume options to black or a very dark shade of grey. Also, the clothing must reveal as little of the figure as possible. For this reason, I decided that a jacket and looser fitting pants would be best. Another benefit to this is that the killer's movement would not be restricted. If the outfit was tighter, movements would be visibly awkward to the audience. It could also reveal the characters physique, which would spoil the whole character in general. After all this consideration, I found a black jacket that is perfect to the role. It has no branding that would give off any negative brand images, which is another plus. It has a zipper that can cover another shirt underneath, which means it is very versatile to throw over any normal clothes we would wear. It also means putting it on and taking it off it much easier. Coupling this with the dark pants and any standard black shoe can make a simple, yet effective costume for the killer.
Above is the jacket that killer will wear to conceal identity. It also includes a hood to conceal even more of their physical appearance.
